The Gyr8tor by Lovehoney is a “gyroscopic vibrator”. But what exactly is that?
Well, the brand offers little in the way of technical explanations, but from watching it work, I suspect it’s a sex toy powered by a gyroscope. Its heavy, spherical base acts as a kind of counterweight, allowing it to make tilting rotations, a bit like a spinning top that comes to life on its own.
The result is a rhythmic movement that looks rather disorderly. These gyroscopic movements are combined with traditional vibrations.
The Gyr8tor was created by the winner of Lovehoney’s “Design Your Own Sex Toy” competition.
Intrigued, I wanted to try it. Here’s my review of the Gyr8tor.
Sex toy packaging
The packaging is a fairly simple cardboard box. It’s eco-friendly, with no plastic, although it’s a shame that no storage pouch is included.
The Gyr8tor’s appearance
The Gyr8tor looks a bit like a large purple microphone. It’s not exactly a beauty, but it’s not ugly either.
At first glance, this sex toy seems rather bulky. But you soon realize that this is just an illusion caused by its heavy, spherical base.
It’s about 22 centimetres long, but only 13 centimetres are insertable. Its diameter is 3.6 centimetres.
The insertable part is very slightly curved.
Texture and materials
The Gyr8tor is entirely covered in silicone. It is therefore odourless and body-safe.
Powering the Gyr8tor
The Gyr8tor is rechargeable. Its cable plugs into a USB port and has a jack connector at the other end, which you insert into a port on the toy’s base.
Charging takes an estimated two hours, for just thirty minutes of use. That’s a poor ratio, but given how much the thing wriggles, it’s hardly surprising.
One downside: the Gyr8tor isn’t waterproof, only splash-resistant.
Controls and modes
The Gyr8tor has three buttons: a round button and two arrows.
Press and hold the round button to switch on the toy. At first, you hear the motor start up, but nothing else seems to happen. Then, after a few suspenseful seconds of noise, the frenzied dance begins.
Something spins inside the ball that forms the base of the toy, sending the other end into a circular movement at high speed and with large amplitude.
The toy has two gyroscopic modes, meaning two different rotation modes: continuous and jerky. You switch between them by pressing the down arrow.
These rotations have five speeds. It starts at the slowest speed, and you cycle through them by pressing the central button.
Finally, the Gyr8tor has six vibration modes. This part is really not intuitive. Start the vibrations with a long press on the up arrow, then cycle through the two continuous modes and the four patterns with short presses on the same arrow. A long press on this button stops the vibrations.
Of course, the vibrations and gyroscopic rotations can be used together.
Gyr8tor noise level
As for noise, the Gyr8tor makes a terrible racket! The sound of its vibrations is nothing compared with the noise from its gyroscopic movements. You’d think you’d switched on a centrifuge crossed with a pair of maracas!
Using the Gyr8tor
The Gyr8tor seems designed primarily for vaginal penetration, although its very wide base also makes it safe to use for anal penetration.
As for lubrication, any water-based lubricant will do. And with a sex toy that moves around this much, don’t skimp on the amount!
Once the toy is switched on, inserting it can be a bit of a struggle. The gyroscope sends the insertable end into a frantic circular motion, making it difficult to aim properly. That’s why it’s best to insert it before switching on the motor.
Keeping control of the buttons in the heat of the moment is almost impossible. Before long, you lose track of what you’re doing. But that’s not a big deal, because none of the modes is weak.
Indeed, the Gyr8tor’s gyroscopic rotations give its movement unmatched energy. Unlike a piston-style sex toy, such as the Mia Maxx, it doesn’t slow down at the slightest resistance. Its movement is also much more rhythmic, less regular and less monotonous than the tilting action of the Mona Wave or the Ina Wave by Lelo.
Although the toy moves around as it pleases, you can still guide it so that it hits the G-spot at a frenetic pace.
I’m not sure the vibrations add all that much to the combination. What’s certain, though, is that the G-spot sensations the Gyr8tor delivers are intense. Its rapid pace and the energy of its movements are particularly enjoyable.
Conclusion on the Gyr8tor
The good points:
- The Gyr8tor’s movements are rhythmic and full of energy. A bit like a mini fucking machine, it’s a sex toy that comes to life and seems almost animated by its own will when you use it.
- With its rhythmic, irregular tilting movements, it delivers intense and original G-spot stimulation.
The bad points:
- Its controls are quite difficult to master in the heat of the moment.
- It’s very noisy. Avoid it if anyone is sleeping in the next room.
Review score
Pros
- Rhythmic, full of energy
- Intense G-spot stimulation
Cons
- Non-intuitive controls
- Noisy
The Gyr8tor is a truly innovative vibrator. You could compare it to a kind of pocket-sized fucking machine.
It may not be an everyday sex toy. It won’t be the one that faithfully keeps you company on your bedside table, waiting every night for you to use it before you fall asleep.
But if you enjoy unusual sex toys that move around a lot, you’ll most likely love the experience the Gyr8tor has to offer.
