We are often asked for details about the sound level of the sex toys we test, and in particular the ultra-powerful vibrators, which are often quite loud.
Describing a sound explicitly and clearly isn’t straightforward. Even at equivalent decibel levels, sounds are not always the same: some sounds can be more irritating or more disturbing than others, and it also depends on the person hearing them. Not knowing your noise tolerance, or the thickness of your walls (depending on the sex toy, you may worry about what your neighbours or flatmates will hear), I decided to make a series of comparison videos so that you can judge for yourselves.
Here is my first attempt, in which I compare the sound levels of three of my favourite corded vibrators, which are also three of the noisiest sex toys I own: the Fairy Mini, the Europe Magic Wand and the Body Wand.
Behind the fabric serving as a backdrop is a sofa: a fairly soft thing, so. When you apply these vibrators to your clitoris (or on your back, if you put them to their original use as massage devices), it still makes less noise than when I try to masturbate the sofa in the video…. But there is still a big difference between the sound of the vibrators “when idle” and their sound when they are in contact with flesh.
This is a first attempt: I will try to improve my technique (and my comments) in the upcoming videos. I would have liked to add other sex toys to this sound comparison, in particular the Fairy Lithium, but I hadn’t planned for it, and I found myself out of battery. So that will have to wait until next time.
You will also notice that the controls of the Europe Magic Wand are less intuitive than those of the Fairy and the Body Wand. First, a long press is required to switch on the Europe Magic Wand, then a sequence of short presses, in order to increase the intensity of the vibrations up to their maximum power. Even though I use this sex toy regularly, I still fumble a bit.
The Fairy Mini is the one that emits the highest-pitched sound: this is linked to its high frequency. The Europe Magic Wand emits a lower-pitched sound; it has a lower frequency, but the amplitude of its vibrations is greater: if you look carefully, you can also see that the fabric trembles visibly on contact. The Body Wand is halfway between the two.
If there are any particular sex toys you would like to hear in the upcoming videos, let us know in the comments or on the Vibrators forum.
