BDSM practices often put imagination and inventiveness in the spotlight. That’s why it’s always nice to discover innovative BDSM accessories. So when the Passage du Désir shop offered me the chance to try its Pop handle cuffs, I jumped at the chance.
They’re simply a pair of cuffs connected by a handle. The idea may seem minimalist, but someone had to think of it! It’s a chance to improvise some new games.
Here’s our review of the Pop handle cuffs.
Cuffs packaging
The cuffs come in a cardboard box that looks fairly understated, but rather elegant. It won’t be any use for storage, and we’ll probably throw it away fairly soon. Still, it looks quite presentable as a gift.
What the Pop handle cuffs look like
The Pop Passage du Désir range brings together a collection of BDSM accessories in matching colours, combining purple and black. While the other accessories in the range are, in a way, “basics” for bondage and domination games, these cuffs with a handle offer a new concept that’s simple but promising.
The Pop handle cuffs look good, without being too kitsch. They’re not at all going for a “latex and metal” vibe, but they’re also a far cry from the frilly cuffs you can even find in a joke shop. In short: they’re believable, attractive, but not remotely intimidating.
Materials
The cuffs are made of neoprene, with a soft plastic handle. They may be a little less durable than leather cuffs, but they’re compatible with a vegan lifestyle.
Using the Pop handle cuffs
The texture and shape of the handle make it easy to grip. It doesn’t slip, even when your fingers are covered in lube.
But why use cuffs with a handle? For starters, these let you manoeuvre your partner as you please, with their hands tied behind their back or in front of them, without causing them or yourself any discomfort. You can see them as a playful way to objectify the other person as part of a BDSM role-play. Like a kind of suitcase, you can manoeuvre your other half by their handle. It’s the beginnings of forniphilia.
With their handle, these cuffs also turned out to be great fun for us when practising doggy style. Well, I won’t lie to you: there’s a slightly kitsch side to wearing cuffs with a handle in this position, but that’s part of what makes it fun.
Conclusion on the Pop handle cuffs
The good points:
- They’re rather attractive cuffs.
- With their handle, they let you give your imagination free rein and venture into trying out new positions.
- They’re very affordable: under 30 euros.
The bad points:
- The handle does give them a slightly odd look, which may take some getting used to.
Review score
Pros
- Pretty handcuffs
- Their handle allows for fun games
- Reasonable price
Cons
- The look thanks to the handle
You’ll like the Pop cuffs if you enjoy (or want to try) not-too-hardcore BDSM play and want to get yourself some accessories that are practical, not too expensive and not ugly.
I like their innovative concept. It helps you objectify the person playing the submissive role for the duration of a game, or to feel objectified yourself.
These unusual cuffs also provide practical support in certain positions, such as doggy style, where grabbing your partner “by their handle” offers an amusing variation. They can also help you avoid hurting your back during sex.
