The Vibrating Duck: a cute sex toy, but not very effective

on

We’re being bombarded with vibrating ducks everywhere. There’s the standard yellow vibrating duck, the mini one, the SM duck, the pirate duck, the Parisian duck, the Christmas one, the golden duck and more recently, the duck wearing a kawaii cat-ear hat… Ducks are everywhere… And even in Carrefour’s pharmacy aisle !

The vibrating duck is quite the sex toy that popularised sex toys. In fact, the duck doesn’t have a cock-shaped head, so it doesn’t scare even the most prudish people. It’s cute, innocent and fashionable. Too fashionable.

We would almost forget it isn’t very effective.

Like (almost) everyone, I bought a vibrating duck. The “I Rub My Duckie” in the pirate model, in its little treasure chest. It’s the so-called “travel” model, that is, the small model.

Look-wise: hat for the pirate vibrating duck

As for presentation, everything is impeccable. The case, although it’s made of cardboard, is sturdy and pleasant to look at. It will serve as a storage box for the duck. The inside is padded with red fabric. The duck wears a cute pirate hat, which you take off before using it. Its material doesn’t deteriorate over time or (not that I’ve been able to observe, in any case) when in contact with other sex toys.

Using the vibrating duck: it’s a flop

As for effectiveness, however, this pretentious duckling is far from living up to its popularity.

I’ve more or less followed the recommended instructions. The “I Rub My Duckie” is primarily used for external clitoral stimulation, but you can also insert its head at the vaginal entrance (for the “travel” model only). It can also be used as a massage tool. It can be used in the shower, but its use is not recommended in the bath.

Summary of use: if you’re counting on climaxing with the sole aid of Mr Duckling, you have to work at him for quite a while to get a lukewarm orgasm. And even then, this orgasm isn’t guaranteed, because sometimes you get bored first. All the more so because, when used directly on the clitoris, it ends up hurting a bit because of its texture that is too hard. Besides, in my opinion, the vast majority of the problem lies in the texture of the material, a totally rigid plastic that isn’t very pleasant to touch. In addition, its shape makes it hard to handle, and the intensity of its vibrations isn’t necessarily where you’d expect it (for example, the vibrations are very weak at the beak).

Other animal-shaped vibrators

In the category of cute animal-shaped vibrators, if you want a real sex toy that will make you climb the walls without scraping your clitoral skin, choose a flexible silicone model. It’s just my humble opinion, but I find that models with a nice soft snout are the loveliest, because they let you target the clit precisely and gently. Right now I’m eyeing the (Edit by Lui: acquired :) ) Fun Factory’s Dolly Dolphin II, which is also a waterproof model usable in the shower (Edit by Lui: actually just splash-resistant, not waterproof) (review to come).

Apart from that, I’ve discovered a previously ignored feature of Mr Duckling, the ferocious Duckling of the Seas. If you set him down, switched on, on a tiled floor, he sets off on an adventure by himself, in reverse. We might perhaps consider organising vibrating duck races…

pirate vibrating duck
3 .4 / 10

Pros

  • Its look: it's cute. Not exactly sexy, but cute.
  • Its packaging, which becomes a nifty storage box

Cons

  • It's not very effective
  • Its texture is hard, not very comfortable for the clit
  • It's the exact opposite of an original sex toy
  • It can't be used in the bath: for a duck, that's the ultimate irony!
