A handcrafted wooden dildo: the Orchidée, by Idée du Désir

A few days ago, this blog featured an interview with the cabinetmaker who makes the Idée du Désir wooden sex toys.

I had then announced the upcoming review of one of his creations: the Orchidée, a sculpted walnut dildo with a curved shape and a handle. This handcrafted sculpture is truly magnificent, but that’s far from its only quality.

I really like wooden sex toys, and this one immediately caught my attention: the device looked rather promising when it comes to G-spot stimulation.

Packaging

The Orchidée comes in a white satin pouch. Quite simple, it makes for a practical, unobtrusive storage case.

At first glance, the Orchidée somewhat resembles the Nobessence Fling, but it’s far from identical.

Their lengths and the widths of their heads are of the same order of magnitude, but the Orchidée’s handle is a bit slimmer, and above all much shorter, which leaves more length for the insertable part. The Orchidée’s head is slightly more curved.

 

 

But I imagine the dimensions of the object may vary from one model to another: it’s a handcrafted sculpture, made by hand (and with a wood chisel).

And finally, the texture and finishes are completely different. Both objects, each in its own style, are flawless and perfectly well-crafted. The Nobessence Fling is smoother, more uniform, while the Orchidée by Idée du Désir has a surface textured by the chisel marks that shaped it, yet remains perfectly smooth to the touch, thanks to the polish.

I couldn’t really compare them objectively, but for my part, I have a slight preference for the look of the Orchidée, which seems to have more personality (that said, I’m not turning my back on the Nobessence Fling, which remains one of my favourite sex toys).

 

The surface of the Orchidée, which features numerous raised “waves”, is naturally decorated by the patterns formed by the wood grain. This pattern formed during the growth of the tree from which the wood comes. It is therefore unique; each copy of this sex toy has its own.

 

 

Texture and materials

There are several versions of the Orchidée: the “structured” version, which we’re reviewing here, and a smoother version, with no “waves” on its surface: the Orchidée Skin.

It’s also possible to choose the wood the sex toy is made from: the structured Orchidée is available in walnut and cherry, while the Orchidée Skin can be made in cherry or maple, to your preference.

The model we received is the structured version of the Orchidée, in walnut.

 

Walnut is a dark, solid wood, with a fine grain. It’s characterised by numerous variations in tone within the same block of wood. This particular look makes it very sought-after in cabinetmaking and sculpture.

The dildo’s surface is textured. It features raised areas, in “waves”, marking the path of the wood chisel used to make the object. These raised areas are perfectly polished and smooth, oriented in a harmonious way, with not a single rough spot.

 

The surface of the Orchidée is coated with a food-grade varnish, which protects the wood from moisture and stains, without posing any risk to the body.

Use

Grip

The Orchidée’s handle is perfectly shaped to slide two fingers through, which allows you to hold it firmly and comfortably, threading the sex toy over your index and middle fingers.

Now, you don’t need to have particularly large fingers, but this should suit most women’s hands, and men’s hands that are fairly slim.

 

 

Effectiveness

With its curved shape and its firm, rounded head, the Orchidée is an excellent dildo for G-spot stimulation, that erogenous zone located towards the front of the vagina, a few centimetres inside the entrance.

Once it’s inserted, holding it with two fingers, all you have to do is let it slide to apply sustained pressure, right against this zone. Its head presses evenly, gently but firmly, against the surface of the G-spot, stimulating it very intensely.

 

 

When using the Orchidée for vaginal penetration, you can clearly feel the raised areas on its surface. This texture, very smooth despite appearances, provides pleasant complementary sensations, without excessive friction.

With a clitoral vibrator as a complement, the Orchidée allows me to achieve, without difficulty, a very powerful orgasm.

Because of its surface texture, the structured Orchidée still needs a little lubricant for optimal use. A standard water-based lubricant does the job.

Conclusion

The good points:

• The Orchidée is a magnificent sex toy. It’s a handcrafted, original and unique object.
• The Orchidée is made in France, by a cabinetmaker passionate about his craft.
• Its shape and texture make it very effective for G-spot stimulation.

The bad points:

• The Orchidée has no gadget features, so if you’re looking for a sex toy that blinks, this won’t be it, but it doesn’t really have any bad points to speak of.

 

The Orchidée is a dildo that is both beautiful and effective. It’s a genuine work of art, sculpted by hand, and every model is unique. But it’s also a formidable sex toy for G-spot stimulation, which delivers powerful, intense orgasms without much effort.

I recommend it without hesitation.
