Bodyglide for Toys: Testing a Silicone-Based Lubricant

on

The lubricant Bodyglide for Toys, made by the brand Megasol Cosmetic (that’s me, or it sounds like a supervillain’s name?), is an intimate silicone-based lubricant, designed to be compatible with sex toys made of silicone.

Bodyglide for Toys: testing a silicone-based lubricant

The Bodyglide for Toys lubricant bottle

The bottle is a tube with a capacity of 100 millilitres.

It could just as easily contain a moisturiser or a hair treatment. You squeeze it to get the lubricant out, and it seals airtight after use.

Appearance and texture

Bodyglide for Toys is a transparent lubricant, fairly fluid (without being extreme – it doesn’t “run” excessively) and very, very slippery, even viscous. Once it’s on your fingers, or elsewhere, you can’t get rid of it.

As far as lubrication goes, it’s a plus: it slides well, and for a long time. The drawback is that once the lubricant has been spread over the sex toy and/or your private parts, you end up with sticky fingers. If you’re using a non-waterproof vibrator, expect a bit of a faff to clean the controls afterwards.

Taste and smell

Bodyglide for Toys is odourless and has no taste. But, well, since a silicone-based lubricant is rarely meant to be tasted, you should still avoid swallowing tonnes of it.

Composition of the Bodyglide for Toys lubricant

The ingredient list is surprisingly short: Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Cyclomethicone. These are three silicones usually used in cosmetics.

If you want to quibble, you’ll note that it’s not very organic, and that the non-biodegradability of silicones is bad for the environment. But, a priori, there’s no danger to the body to report, and that’s not bad.

Bodyglide for Toys is compatible with condoms and, according to the leaflet, with sex toys, particularly those made of silicone. For this second claim, I would still have some reservations, depending on the material the toy is made of:

  • Wood, glass, metal, rigid plastic, ceramic: you can go ahead with your eyes closed.
  • Regular “classic” silicone (examples: Lelo, Fun Factory, etc…): normally, it’s fine. If in doubt, test beforehand on a small area of the sex toy to make sure it doesn’t damage it.
  • VixSkin: not compatible, as VixSkin itself contains a silicone lubricant that gives it its flexibility, and a silicone-based lubricant may damage the toy.
  • Dodgey soft plastic materials (jelly, etc): with the sex toy’s composition unknown, the reaction is unpredictable… best avoided.

Use of the Bodyglide for Toys lubricant

The lubrication provided by Bodyglide for Toys is good, and suits both vaginal and anal use. It’s not, however, the most effective silicone-based lubricant I’ve come across: I’m thinking in particular of the Pjur Back Door, which is more fluid, glides for longer, without the “sticky” quality.

Conclusion on the Bodyglide for Toys lubricant

The good points:

  • Good lubrication
  • Odourless and tasteless
  • Composition is healthy

The bad points:

  • Sticky

Overall, the Megasol Bodyglide for Toys lubricant is a good product, even if its texture, a bit too sticky to my liking, prevents it from fully convincing me.
