Le site HotMovies, spécialisé dans la location de pornos en streaming, a lancé un outil de recherche de porno par reconnaissance faciale.
Le magazine XBiz explains this new feature. Hotmovie draws on its vast database of porn star photos to power its machine-learning algorithm. So, when you upload a photo to its search tool, it suggests porn actors or actresses who look like the person in the portrait you’ve just provided.
Facial recognition porn and the buzz
In reality, porn by facial recognition isn’t really anything new. Two years ago, a site called pornstar.id, which no longer exists, had already offered a similar tool. And Pornhub was starting to use facial recognition to identify the actors and actresses appearing in its videos.
I’d found pornstar.id’s facial recognition pretty mediocre. In the few tests I’d done with photos of famous porn actors and actresses, it hadn’t managed to identify the people in them.
But Hotmovies’ algorithm does a little better. It managed to identify Sasha Grey and Claire Castel without any trouble in every photo I tried. However, it doesn’t know everything, and it’ll be a while before it lets your neighbours find your sex tape!
For example, I tried it with a photo of Charlie Liveshow, a really fun camgirl who has some rather nice videos to her name. The facial-recognition porn search tool suggested two actresses, Christy Kanyon and Karen Summer. Let’s face it, the resemblance isn’t exactly striking!
In short, for now, the interplay between facial recognition and porn is still in its infancy.
The future of facial recognition porn
However, the technology is advancing and, whether we like it or not, it will be used. Should we be worried?
Will we soon be able to scan the faces of strangers in the street with a smartphone to discover their sexual escapades? Will someone soon take a look at your face’s pornographic footprint before granting you a loan or offering you a job?
Let’s hope these practices remain in the realm of science fiction. But only time will tell. If in doubt, make sure you look good and presentable in your sex tapes.
