The Fun Factory Big Boss G5 is an imposing vibrator. Granted, it’s phallic in shape, but it’s made of silicone, well made, and its vibrations are thunderous.
Before vibrators shaped like ducks, caterpillars and other animals became popular, followed by those with abstract designs, a sex toy was first and foremost a big phallic thing. With the Big Boss G5, Fun Factory is going back to this original definition, while giving it a thoroughly modern makeover.
Personally, I have nothing against penis-shaped sex toys, as long as they’re effective and good quality. The German brand has had plenty of successes to its name, so I was keen to try the Big Boss G5 straight away.
We received the toy in two versions: the classic G5, and the “Black Line” edition, with a redesigned look and a black handle.
Here’s our review of the Fun Factory Big Boss G5.
Sex toy packaging
The Big Boss packaging is much like that of the brand’s other sex toys. It’s made of polka-dot cardboard, decorated with pictures of the toy, and looks pretty good, but it’s disposable.
The boxes for the Big Boss G5 and the Big Boss Black Line
No case is included, so if you want one, you’ll have to buy it separately. Fun Factory sells some pretty nice, sturdy ones.
For its twentieth anniversary, Karim Rashid created a lovely new Toybag, printed with colourful silhouettes of Fun Factory sex toys. He’s a designer famous enough to have his own Wikipedia page.
I was won over… until I noticed it cost three times as much as its monochrome twin (nearly 20 euros, compared with nearly 7 euros for the undecorated case). I’ll let you judge for yourself, but personally, if I were to buy one, I think I’d go for the unmodified version, which is more affordable.
This designer also created a sex toy storage chest for the brand, made of foldable cardboard, called the “Toybox”; Fun Factory sent us one.
The same goes for the case: it’s pretty, sturdy, and has practical details (a little slot to feed the charging cables through and a magnetic closure). But I think it’s too expensive: nearly 30 euros for a nice cardboard box…
What the Fun Factory Big Boss G5 looks like
The Big Boss G5 comes in three colours: flesh tone, fuchsia and black. The flesh-tone and fuchsia versions haven’t changed a bit, but with the “Black Line” edition, the black model’s handle has changed from white to black.
It’s not a radical change of look, but I think this new colour scheme is a little more stylish. It’s the only difference between the “classic” G5 and the “Black Line” version, so I won’t dwell on it any further in this review.
The handle has a hole for two fingers and is fitted with three buttons.
As for the insertable part, it’s curved upwards, phallic, with a glans at the end. Nevertheless, it’s sufficiently stylised that you wouldn’t mistake it for a depiction of a human willy. The glans is perfectly symmetrical and smooth, with no meatus or frenulum.
Four raised ridges run from the base of this not-very-realistic phallus. The first three, fairly short, run diagonally and act as veins, while the last becomes the frenulum, extending all the way underneath the glans.
It’s imposing in size, with a diameter of 4.5 centimetres and an 18-centimetre insertable length.
Texture and material
The insertable part of the Fun Factory Big Boss G5 is made of medical-grade silicone, a non-toxic, non-porous material.
The silicone surface has a lovely, soft “peach-skin” texture. However, it has an annoying tendency to attract dust, even just a few seconds after you’ve cleaned it… It’s remarkable: it was already covered in fluff as soon as I unwrapped it, so you have to keep cleaning it. It also needs quite a lot of lubricant.
As for lubricant, the brand recommends choosing one with a water base, and warns against oils* and sunscreens**, which are guaranteed to damage the vibrator and, in doing so, void its warranty.
(*) Note: Oil-based lubricants aren’t compatible with condoms, and can cause infections if used in the vagina.
(**) Second note: If you ever get the ridiculous idea of putting sunscreen inside your vagina, please, for its sake, change your mind.
Nothing is specified about silicone lubricants, but after trying them out many times, none of the ones I’ve had to hand has managed to damage any of the Fun Factory sex toys in my collection.
Without being soft, the Big Boss G5 is a little “cushiony” all along its length, and flexible in every direction.
Put like that, a flexible vibrator doesn’t sound like anything special… But it’s a little more impressive when you realise from the way its vibrations are distributed that one of its two motors seems to be right in a part that can bend any which way, not far from the glans. This explains the “FlexiFun technology” label and the patent application.
Powering the Fun Factory Big Boss G5
There’s nothing new here compared with Fun Factory’s other rechargeable toys.
The charger is still the same, the Click & Charge: USB at one end, and a tip that attaches magnetically to two little metal nubbins on the sex toy’s handle.
A little aside: to my great surprise, I noticed that you can charge the Big Boss G5 with a Satisfyer charger… but not the other way round. If you were hoping to buy a Click & Charge to replace the charging cable for your Satisfyer that you’ve just lost, no such luck.
The current is the same at the USB end, and at the other end, both chargers have a pair of magnetic nubbins spaced similarly enough to make contact. Yet when the Satisfyer Pro 2 is plugged into the Click & Charge, it lights up red briefly as if it were about to charge, then nothing (whereas it flashes red while charging).
Why? Who knows. Was this deliberate, and if so, by which of the two brands? I haven’t the faintest idea.
Nothing has changed when it comes to the battery either, which is just as well: it’s a super-powerful lithium battery that holds its charge, even when the Big Boss hasn’t been used for a long time.
It’s worth noting that the Big Boss G5 is completely waterproof, which makes it much easier to clean and means you can use it in the shower or bath.
Controls on the Fun Factory Big Boss G5
The Big Boss G5 has the same controls as the Stronic, the Patchy Paul G5 or the Miss Bi. It has three raised, round buttons that you can easily find with your fingertip, even without looking:
- A “Fun” button, the largest one, which switches the sex toy on and off,
- Two “+” and “−” buttons, which let you scroll through the modes
When you switch it on, it starts on a constant-vibration mode. There are a series of modes before it, and others after it. The “+” button takes you to the next one, the “−” to the previous one, but it doesn’t start cycling through again once you reach the last one.
The controls are simple and intuitive; you always have a rough idea where you are, and if you press the wrong button in the heat of the moment, it’s easy to go back.

It’s also possible to lock the controls (for example, when transporting the sex toy) by pressing “Fun” and “−” at the same time until these two buttons flash. To unlock it, do the same with the “Fun” and “+” buttons.
Vibration modes
The Fun Factory Big Boss G5 has 12 vibration modes:
- 6 constant modes of varying intensity. Two weaker modes come before the one it starts on, and three stronger ones come after.
- 3 modes that the instructions call “Aerobic”, because their intensity rises and falls in a sawtooth pattern.
- 3 modes called “Razzle Dazzle”. These modes mix vibrations and pulses in fast, more complex rhythms.
The six more fanciful modes are well designed, with gradual changes in vibration and no stops. They’re worth trying, and I often spend time on them. However, I focus more on the constant mode when my aim is to reach orgasm.
Noise level of the Fun Factory Big Boss G5
The Big Boss G5 is quiet. At full power, the cicadas outside make far more noise than it does.
Effectiveness for clitoral stimulation
Given the toy’s slightly imposing size, it’s more comfortable to start with clitoral stimulation before trying to insert it.

When used externally, the head of the Big Boss G5 delivers vibrations strong enough to stimulate the clitoris very effectively.
The motors are powerful, and there are two of them. One is in the head of the sex toy, the second near the base of the insertable part. This arrangement distributes the vibrations evenly along its length, without any loss of intensity.
I come quickly this way. I can do it once or twice more if I want, and then move on to penetration.
Effectiveness for vaginal penetration
For vaginal insertion, as I said above, it’s best to have plenty of lubricant to hand.
The shape of its glans allows it to be inserted gradually and gently. The Big Boss G5 is big but very flexible, giving a sense of fullness without causing discomfort. Whatever position you’re in.
Once it’s inside, I prefer to make small movements with it rather than vigorous in-and-out thrusts. By adjusting its angle, its head easily stimulates my G-spot. The powerful vibrations that spread through this area and deeper inside contribute to intense orgasms.
I haven’t tried using this sex toy anally: it’s too big for me. Note that it has no stopper at its base. So if you decide to take it on a trip to your dark side, make sure you always keep a finger in its handle to hold it in place and prevent an accident.
Conclusion on the Fun Factory Big Boss G5
The good points:
- Its vibrations are powerful. This makes it very effective for clitoral stimulation and adds to the sensations once the sex toy is inserted.
- It’s big and very flexible, creating a sense of fullness without discomfort.
- It’s excellent quality overall (body-safe material, a good battery, waterproofing…).
The bad points:
- It attracts dust.
- Its fairly “basic”, phallic shape won’t suit everyone’s tastes.
The Fun Factory Big Boss G5 is a very good vibrator. The quality and sensations are both there. If you like larger sizes and powerful vibrations, if you’re looking for a multi-purpose sex toy and aren’t afraid of a slightly phallic design, I highly recommend it.
