A few days ago, we published an interview of Christine, the woman who handcrafts the wooden dildos from La Tulipe. .rnrnWe are now off to a double sex toy test: that of the dildos made of wood, Le Sensation and Le Rêveur
Test of the wooden dildos from La Tulipe
Le Sensation has rounded, regular shapes, while Le Rêveur is more whimsical. But let’s look at all this more closely.
Sex toy packaging A storage case
the storage case for the two sex toys ‑rnrnInside each case, wrapped around the dildo, we found a sex toy evaluation questionnaire. It can be sent back to the brand to give feedback on the product.ρ to give feedback on the product. ρρApart from this case and the parcel itself, there isn’t really any packaging to speak of. In fact, the dildos are stored in their cases, placed directly on the parcel’s padding. ρρThat’s not a problem: the important thing is having somewhere to store the sex toys, which is the case here.
Appearance and dimensions of the two wooden dildos
The two sex toys are the same length, at 21 centimetres, and the same base diameter: just over 3 centimetres. ρρBoth are made of light wood, and decorated with a brand logo. Le Sensation has a tulip on the flat surface of its base, while Le Rêveur is decorated with two tulips at the bottom of its handle.

These two sex toys are not unsightly objects. However, by association, we find it hard to suppress allusions to a bar or a chair legAnd that somewhat detracts from their sexy side. Their shapes are far too straight.

Dildo Le Sensation
The wooden dildo Le Sensation starts with a very short handle, followed by a row of four spheres of the same diameter, ending with a slightly slimmer tip.
A tiny hole in the centre of its base corresponds to where it was mounted on the wood lathe. You can tell this is a truly handcrafted product.
Dildo Le Rêveur
Le Rêveur, in turn, has a handle much more substantial in relation to its overall length. It is decorated with three grooves at its end. Its shape then makes me think somewhat of a Christmas tree, with three truncated cones placed end to end, ending in a slimmer tip, but still rounded.
The mystery orifice on the base of the sextoy
Strange thing: on the base of the model we received, a recessed screw thread, not really centred, and still surrounded by a few pencil marks. After some research on La Tulipe’s official website, I worked out the purpose of this hole. It can be used to:
- To assemble the sextoy with another one similarly equipped, with an adapter, also made of wood, featuring two male screw threads, to make a double dong.
- Or to attach it to the La Tulipe harness, only compatible with the brand’s sextoys.
Compatibility with “standard” harness models already on the market might have been more desirable, but it’s already a good idea to have thought of creating such a fastening system.

Without a dildogirtle or a brand adapter on hand, I can’t attempt the assembly to see what it looks like. However, the hole being slightly off-centre, if I assembled the Rêveur sample I received with the said adapter, I’m wondering if I wouldn’t end up with a awkward misalignment between the various partsOn the dildogirtle, I don’t think it would cause too many problems. But would it stay straight? Is the sample we received a demonstration prototype, hence this not very successful centring ? I’m not too sure.
Edit : In the comments, La Tulipe explained that the sample we tested was one of the first to be studied for compatibility with the harness, hence its off-centre fixing. This issue has since been resolved.
A few surface irregularities
We also noticed a few superficial ‘bumps’ around the three grooves on the handle. Small irregularities, and tiny patches where the varnish is too thick. But the whole insertable part is perfectly smooth.
Texture and materials
La Tulipe’s sex toys are made of wood. More precisely, Christine told me she works with cherry, beech and burl. I think, judging by their colour, that the models we received are made of beech. But I’m not very knowledgeable about the subject.
Le Sensation and Le Rêveur are carved from a single block, no risk of pieces coming loose. of pieces coming loose.risk. no risk of pieces coming loose. pieces coming loose. (you hear it in the feature on La Tulipe published on Jacquie and Michel TV). And the sex toys are coated with a food-safe varnish, which therefore poses no a priori risk to the body.
The surface of both dildos is very smooth. A few irregularities are visible on the shaft, but you cannot feel them to the touch.rnthem to the touch.rnBoth are completely odourless. (As usual, I sniffed them carefully several times to make sure.)
Wooden sex toys and hygiene
After sharing the first unboxing photos of the Sensation and the Rêveur on various social media, I noticed several comments from people worried about the hygienic aspect of wooden sex toys. In particular because some wooden utensils are banned in restaurant kitchens for hygienic reasons.rnLet’s therefore clear this up.rnYou cannot boil a wooden sex toy that is varnished, in order to disinfect it entirely. So, a wooden sex toy is less hygienic than a metal or pure-silicone dildo.rnBut you cannot boil a vibrator either, and vibrators are not dirty for all that. Boiling a sex toy is only useful if there is a real need to disinfect it. For example, if you intend to lend or give a sex toy you’ve already used.rnFor personal use, a simple washing with water and soap and a good drying are enough to be perfectly hygienic, and properly cleaning a wooden dildo is not all that complicated.
The other wooden sex toy that can be seen in the second photo is the Joy, from Bobtoys, which we will soon be testing on Objets de Plaisir.
Using La Tulipe’s wooden dildos
I only used the two La Tulipe sex toys for vaginal penetration. Their base is not flared, so they cannot be used for anal penetration.
Le Sensation
The Le Sensation dildo is smooth and even. Its diameter is substantial, without being terrifying either is substantial, without being terrifying either? no? Wait, correct: . Its diameter is substantial, without being terrifying either. It inserts and withdraws gradually, one bump after another. The surface of these bumps is very smooth, and it requires very little lubricant.
Le Rêveur
Le Rêveur has more roughness. Its head is smaller and inserts more easily, but the friction are more intense during thrusting. intense during thrusting. during thrusting. . . . There are several consequences to this. First, requiring, with each use, a generous amount of lubrication, it goes through bottles of lubricant quickly. Next, even though its diameter is narrower, it feels wider during penetration. The sensations differ depending on the direction of the movement you are applying to it, there is more friction when you are withdrawing the sex toy than when you are inserting it.
Conclusion on La Tulipe’s wooden dildos
The good points:
- The Sensation and Le Rêveur wooden dildos by La Tulipe are handmade and original.
- They are made from a fine material, wood. The surface of this material, very smooth, glides pleasantly.
- And I quite like their logo, printed in black on the base of the sex toy, in the style of a seal.
The bad points:
- Their shapes are too simplistic, too simplistic, too
