Before starting this test, I have to admit that we’re not really fans of massage oils… So it was more out of curiosity than as enthusiasts that we discovered the “1001 Nights” massage oil in a parcel sent by the Lilou Plaisir shop.
Presentation
Lilou Plaisir’s 1001 Nights oil is sold in a bottle, either 50 millilitres (for 9 euros) or 150 mL (for 19 euros).
The product is dispensed using a push button, itself protected by a plastic cap.
Scent
It’s strong, very strong indeed: a heady, overpowering fragrance with oriental notes… Pouring out a few drops, I feel as though I’m visiting an incense shop… Or a lift full of old ladies who’ve just dolled themselves up. The smell is too powerful for my taste, and it lingers.
Texture
It’s a massage oil… So, as you might expect, the texture is… oily. It’s runny, greasy, slippery… and feels very pleasant if you have dry skin.
Ingredients
A good point about its ingredients: 1001 Nights oil contains neither parabens nor preservatives.
Looking at the ingredients list, you can see it contains a whole host of essential oils… Among others, a substance called “heliantus annuus seed oil”, which, despite its hilarious name, is nothing more than the seed oil of a hybrid strain of sunflower.
It is worth noting, however, the presence of Butylphenyl methylpropional, also known as Lilial, a masking agent (a substance intended to mask a product’s base odour) listed as an endocrine disruptor, and Alpha isomethyl ionone, a fragrance substance that may be allergenic.
Using the massage oil
So I convinced Him to let me cover his back with massage oil.
Unfortunately, our use of the 1001 Nights oil was extremely brief.
I’d barely started smearing the substance over his shoulder blades when he exclaimed: “Ugh! It stinks, what is it? No, it absolutely reeks, actually!” and asked me to stop the carnage, pretending to run away. As I was also slightly bothered by the oil’s overpowering fragrance, I put the bottle down and we gave up.
Conclusion
With a paraben-free formula, the Lilou Plaisir massage oil seems to be a fairly healthy sexy cosmetic.
We didn’t like the smell of its “1001 Nights” fragrance, which we tried…. But that’s a subjective criterion (as far as I’m concerned, if it doesn’t smell like something tasty to eat, my nose gets fussy…), and you might find just what you’re looking for among the various fragrances on offer.
