Here is the twelfth edition of the sextoy gazette, featuring horse penises, a dog show for human puppies and STI prevention campaigns.
A dog show for human puppies
Every year, the P.A.C.K weekend (Pan American Canine Konvention) takes place in Toronto. During this event, the Best In Show takes place, a rather unusual dog show… Indeed, it is intended for human puppies. for human puppies. Each human puppy who participates has five minutes to perform a demonstration of their chosen talent. There are no specific rules, other than the obligation to stay within the law.
Bizarre STI prevention campaigns
In France, a ministerial STI prevention campaign, aimed at teenagers and broadcast via the website OnSexprime, takes an ultra-guilt-tripping tone, sparking anger among netizens and healthcare professionals. Among the seven ‘good reasons to carry a condom with you’ stated: ‘it will save you having to tell the nurse/doctor that you’ve had unprotected sex’. Many netizens point out that medical staff are not there to judge. And that framing a forgotten condom as a shameful, taboo subject risks making people avoid testing or post-exposure treatment out of embarrassment. Meanwhile, the US government reminds us: ‘Stop washing and reusing your condoms!’. And it’s not a joke, nor the ramblings of a politician off his rocker, but a genuine alert issued by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), following record levels of STI cases. A study published in 2012 reveals that Americans are struggling somewhat with the proper use of condoms, with quite a few errors regarding the mode of use. It mentions the reuse of a condom during the same act, with an occurrence of 1.9% among women and 3.3% among men. However, the study does not mention the exact details of this reuse. Still, I imagine it involves putting the condom back on after taking it off. A dangerous thing indeed, but nothing to do with the washing of condoms mentioned by the CDC. On the other hand, reuse in general is only mentioned anecdotally.
Medieval horse penises
The Bayeux Tapestry, an 11th-century work depicting the conquest of England by William the Conqueror, features no fewer than 93 penises. 88 of them belong to horses. The very serious British magazine History takes a closer look at the issue.
