The online shop Lovely Vibes sent us the Tenga Flip Hole Silver.

Tenga Flip Hole Silver masturbator

I’ve had the chance to test several sex toys from the Tenga range on this blog, including the Flip Hole Red.

The Flip Hole Silver differs from the Red in its colour, of course. But that’s not all. The differences we’re interested in are in its internal texture.

So let’s take a look at the Tenga Flip Hole Silver and compare it with the Flip Hole Red, which I’ve already tested here.

Exterior

Packaging

The Tenga Flip Hole Silver’s box is the same as the Red’s: cylindrical, made of hard, transparent plastic.

Three tubes of lubricant are included: “mild”, “real” and “wild”. They’re the same ones as with the Red. “Real” is the most conventional, “mild” is mentholated, and “wild” has a runnier texture.

The sex toy

From the outside, only its silvery-grey colour distinguishes the Flip Hole Silver from its cousin, the Red.

I’ll briefly recap its features for anyone who can’t be bothered to read the Flip Hole Red review.

The Flip Hole is a cylindrical box measuring 17.5 cm long and 8.5 cm in diameter.

Its hard-plastic “shell” surrounds a central section made of silicone elastomer, a very soft material. This section has three slightly firmer “pressure points” which you can press with your fingers to vary the pressure on your penis.

To open the sex toy, slide its closing clip, then unfold it like a book.

Interior

Inside, like the Flip Hole Red, the Tenga Flip Hole Silver is made of silicone elastomer. It has the same usable length: 15 centimetres.

The raised patterns that make up its inner surface are very different. While the Red is a combination of curves and rounded shapes, the Silver is more menacing, with a texture full of spikes and angles.

Despite appearances, though, it’s comfortable, cosy and welcoming, because the spikes that adorn it are soft and very stretchy.

Before using it, spread a small amount of water-based lubricant over its inner surface, taking care not to use too much (or you risk eliminating a large part of the sensation). Then close it, fastening the clip on the opposite side from where it was originally, so you can reach the sex toy’s soft entrance.

Using it

My verdict

Well, to be honest, I have to admit I didn’t really notice any striking differences in sensation between the Tenga Flip Hole Silver and the Red. It’s not as if I tested them in very different situations, either. I tested them at the same time, using one, then the other, then one, then the other… Anyway. I can’t say I don’t notice any difference at all—that would be a lie—but it’s a difference I only feel when I pay very close attention, and for me, using one or the other ultimately amounts to much the same thing.

In fact, the “sharp” side of the Tenga Flip Hole Silver is only visual (since everything is very soft anyway). I think the main difference is that the Red gives your willy more room. The Silver less so. You might therefore expect the Silver to provide more sensation, but that wasn’t the case for me. Either way, my penis was already taking up more than all the available space, squashing the walls in both of them. Just so you know, I don’t think I have a pony-sized penis! To give you an idea, I think it’s a little smaller than Jason’s.

That’s the comparison. That said, I’m still very pleased with this masturbator. I’m simply saying it’s very similar to its red counterpart. The sensations are just as enjoyable, then: to me, it feels like vaginal penetration. Naturally, that’s very pleasurable, and you come more quickly than you would without it!
But rather than repeat myself, I suggest you take a look at the article on the Red model.

But we don’t all experience the physical sensations of a cock in the same way, and for some people the difference in texture between the two models will no doubt be very noticeable, even if it seems trivial to me.

And on that note, I’d like to quote a comment that Tinu posted on our blog. I thought it was really interesting for anyone set on buying a Tenga but faced with this terrible dilemma: which one? What colour?

The comment is about the differences between the Flip Hole Black and the Flip Hole White (so neither the Red nor the Silver):

“Between the two, I prefer the black. The white isn’t ‘rigid’ enough; I find the inside too soft, but that’s a personal thing.

With the black, I find you can really feel the different features inside, particularly the ‘doors’ and/or the protruding modules.

And with the black, which also has a top and bottom, the orientation is actually quite important. For example, you can’t use it rotated by 90°, but that’s specific to the black. (Because of the ‘partially open final channel’: if you rotate it by 90°, the urethra ends up against the opening of the channel, which isn’t really advisable :D).

It works the other way round, but it’s not really the same.”

“[You have to] form your own opinion, which depends on:

1) how soft the silicone is inside. (The white is really soft; the black is a little narrower and firmer). […]

2) how narrow the thing is, and once again, there are a few differences between the versions. […]

3) The internal design matters too, in terms of sensation. Between the white and the black, I much prefer the black, which is far more ‘intense’, let’s say. You can really feel some of the features, whereas with the white it really wasn’t obvious.”

First of all, many thanks to Tinu (whom we had _not_ asked for permission to post this here. Not good. We’re naughty.) for this information. That said, I’d qualify what they’ve said by noting that the Tenga Black, which I haven’t had the chance to test, looks from the cutaway photos I’ve seen to be much more “aggressive” than the Silver: its little spikes stick out much further than those on the Tenga Flip Hole Silver (never mind the Red). But when it comes to spikes, I suggest you take a look for yourself in the rest of the article.

Visual comparison

To help you make your choice, here are a few observations in pictures to illustrate the point.

You can see that the Flip Hole Silver is much “tighter” than the Red.

On the Silver, the raised patterns stick out: you’re bound to come across them as you use it. On the Red, nothing sticks out.

Here’s what you get if you superimpose the two images. In some places, there’s a full centimetre difference in height between the two sex toys, all the same.

My verdict (her)

Intrigued by such penile insensitivity, I decided to inspect the thing for myself. Although simply inspecting it wouldn’t have been much use, since the Flip Hole had already been examined from every angle. Note that’s just an expression: fortunately, it has no seams. So I set about sticking my fingers inside, after carefully lubricating both Tengas.

Three fingers in each Flip Hole later, my hand concluded that, to be able to feel intense sensations (sexual pleasure, orgasm, etc.) and yet not notice the difference between two things so different, a penis is a very strange creature. I could only reach the first few centimetres inside, and even then my fingers felt a marked difference in pressure: the Tenga Flip Hole Silver is much tighter, and the “spikes” make the object feel as if it’s putting up “resistance”.

To the touch, it’s soft, it’s wet… Both of them made me think of a pussy. But not in the same state of relaxitude (yes, I know, that’s not a real word. But it’s the imaginary word that seems most appropriate to describe it). Basically, the Silver is a rather contracted pussy (though not all that much), and the Red is a rather dilated one. You’ll have to decide whether your penis cares much about this sort of thing, and, if so, which of the two pussy-states it prefers.

Conclusion on the Tenga Flip Hole Silver

As for comparing one with the other, as I said in the article, I find them almost identical. In other words, if you already own one or the other, I can only advise you to keep it. In my opinion, you’d be disappointed by how little difference there is—even if your willy is more sensitive than mine.

On the other hand, if you don’t own either and were thinking of getting one, I’d recommend the Tenga Flip Hole Silver. If they’re almost identical, you might as well go for the one that’s more likely to provide stronger sensations!

As for my overall opinion of these Tengas, I’m going to be lazy (and I am lazy) and copy and paste the conclusion I wrote for the Red, since it applies just as well to the Silver:

To sum up, on the whole I liked the Flip Hole. It has a few minor flaws, but I found it well designed, with very pleasant sensations. What’s more, it doesn’t look bad, is easy to put away… in short, it’s practical!

The main good points, I’d say, are that it’s…

  • Very easy to clean properly!
  • Very easy to use (to open, the pressure points, etc.)
  • And most importantly, the sensation is reminiscent of vaginal penetration, which makes it very pleasant. I haven’t tried any other masturbators yet, so I don’t know whether others are more realistic—perhaps they are—but this one is already more than realistic enough for me (if you know what I mean…) and doesn’t have the awkward shape of a backside with the person missing from around it.

The minor flaws I found aren’t to do with sensation or use… It’s simply that, all things considered, it doesn’t quite give the impression of being well made. The outer plastic seems a bit “cheap”, there are the noises it makes, and so on… It’s not up to LELO’s standard, for example. But LELO doesn’t make masturbators… And they’re not in the same price bracket, either!

That said, I think it’s sturdy enough and will hold up well over time, all the same—it’s presumably not meant to be thrown against walls!

I’ll wrap up by answering these two questions:

  • Will I carry on using it to masturbate? Probably. Not every time, but yes, I think so.
  • If I had to buy a new masturbator today, would I? Despite the minor flaws, I think I’d stick with Tenga.
