L’heure idéale pour faire l’amour : une question de genre ?

The ideal time to make love: a question of gender?

on

Selon a survey, the ideal time to make love would be 10pm for women, just before going to bed, and 7.30am for men, who would prefer to copulate upon waking.

The ideal time to make love: a matter of gender?

That’s still a 9.5-hour sexual time gap! Should this difference worry heterosexual couples? That’s what the study initially suggests, as 64% of women and 38% of men who responded to the questionnaire claim to sometimes have sex without really wanting to.

According to Jessica Leoni, sexpert for the website Illicit Encounters, these asynchronous erotic clocks would even be a trigger for infidelity. Let’s reread that sentence. The survey comes from an extramarital dating website, so of course the conclusion was going to point to infidelity! And if we follow this logic to the end, all illicit flings should take place with someone of the same sex. Otherwise, what’s the point of changing partners? The timing problem will always be there.

But no need to panic. If we look more closely at the figures, the situation is less disparate than it first appears.

The ideal time to make love, according to gender

The survey involves a sample of 2,000 people. In detail, the results are more varied, and responses differ greatly from one individual to another.

Among men, the ideal time to make love is:

  • Between 6 and 9 in the morning, for 31% of them.
  • For 25%, between 9pm and midnight.
  • Between 6 and o’clock, according to 18%.
  • And finally, 8% prefer to make love between midnight and 2am, 7% between 9am and 1pm, 5% between 1pm and 4pm, 3% between 4pm and 6pm, and 2% between 2am and 6am.

Among women:

  • The ideal time to make love falls, according to 34% of them, between 9pm and midnight.
  • For 21% of them, it would rather be between 6 and 9pm.
  • And for 12% of them, between 6 and 9 in the morning.
  • For a final note, the midnight to 2am slot is the preference of 9% of the female respondents, with a further 9% for sex between 9am and 1pm. The least flirty time slots fall between 1pm and 4pm, a period chosen by only 8% of women, between 4pm and 6pm, with only 4%, and, lastly, between 2am and 6am, with a score of 3%.

We note that the time slot that the majority of women consider ideal for making love, between 9pm and midnight, corresponds to the second choice among men.

As for the slot chosen by men, between 6 and 9am, this corresponds to the third choice of women.

In short: the figures reveal that preferences are not so contrasting. We can certainly distinguish a few nuances. But the ideal times for making love according to men and women overlap enormously. Moreover, we can assume that early birds will more easily pair up with early birds, and night owls with night owls. Many couples will manage to find the right time zone to synchronise their lovemaking.

And what about the ideal day for making love? The website Superdrug conducted a survey among 2,000 Britons. Unsurprisingly, it’s Saturday that’s in vogue, closely followed by Sunday. Third place goes to Friday.
