In his documentary “The Uncanny Lover”, the New York Times presents the latest project from the creator of RealDoll, Matt McMullen, called Realbotix.
McMullen sells realistic sex dolls, customisable down to the finest details. He now plans to take things one step further, by animating his dolls, giving them speech as well as artificial intelligence.
The human will also be able to converse with their love doll Realbotix via a virtual reality headset
One of the challenges is avoiding the “uncanny valley” (“uncanny valley” in English). Indeed, the anthropomorphic doll must not too imitate a flesh-and-blood being, at the risk of causing discomfort and revulsion in people who will interact with it.
