When I saw that the shop Espace Libido was stocking the dildo Tantus Max O2, I quickly asked to test it.
Indeed, the “realistic” dildos intrigue and amuse me.
It is quite unsettling to be penetrated by an object that more or less resembles a real penis. And when wearing a realistic dildo in a harness, it is easier to set the scene and to imagine yourself suddenly equipped with a phallus full of veins and with an erection.
But the problem is: many “realistic” sex toys are made from patented materials whose chemical composition is often questionable.
However, the brand Tantus is known for using only pure, high-quality silicone, a material that is healthy for the body and odourless.
This is the second small realistic dildo we have had the chance to test, the first being the Fleshjack Boys Jason Visconti Dick.
Sextoy packaging
Like most of the Tantus sex toys we have tested, the Tantus Max O2 is presented in a transparent plastic box.
The box is the biggest I’ve had the chance to come across so far among dildos from the brand… And for good reason: the Max O2 is far from a mini sex toy.
Appearance of the Tantus Max O2
The Tantus Max O2, is, therefore, quite large. Mind you, given its name (“Max”), I should have guessed.
It’s a big contraption: 20 centimetres long, of which just over 17 cm is insertable, for nearly 5 centimetres in diameter. A size still believable for a human penis, but well above average: these would be quite reasonable dimensions for a well-endowed porn actor’s penis.
As for its appearance, it looks like a penis, testicles included. But still not quite as much as the Fleshjack Jason Visconti dildo, which we had tested.
It is clearly not moulded after a real penis. For example, the testicles, two little lumps set apart from each other, are not realistic. It is rather a slightly stylised representation, in a uniform beige-brown tone.
The Tantus Max O2 (on the left) and the Fleshjack Jason Visconti (on the right)
This should not be seen as a lack of knowledge of male anatomy on the part of Tantus: it is done on purpose. These flat testicles allow the dildo to have a wide, flat base, and therefore to fit in a harness with a ring (O-Ring fastening system).
Texture and materials
The Tantus Max O2 is made of medical-grade silicone, as with all the sex toys from its brand. Indeed, Tantus is particularly well known for promoting the use of healthy materials. This quality is therefore not a surprise.
But one interesting specific feature worth noting regarding its texture is that it is softer on its surface than on the inside. I’m not quite sure how it’s done: it probably involves assembling two silicone parts of different consistencies. (it doesn’t seem to have a rigid “core” inside), but the joint isn’t felt.
Squishy!
This gives us a a dildo that is soft and squishy on the outside, with a firmer core, which makes it stand upright like a stick. I’ll stop there, it sounds like I’m talking about a cake filled with chocolate chips.
Its “glans” is smooth and rather stretchy (you can press it between your fingers and make it go “Boing! Boing!”), while the surface of the rest of the “penis” and the “testicles” is softer, really like the skin of a penis (A penis is soft. If you have one to hand, feel it and see for yourself).
On the side meant to come into contact with the floor / a hand / the inside of the strap-on / wherever you fancy putting it (cross out any irrelevant ones), the base is firm but remains flexible.
Using the Tantus Max O2 with a harness
We have several harnesses equipped with an attachment system “O-Ring”, including the Tantus Bend Over Intermediate. I was very excited about the idea of proudly brandishing my brand-new silicone phallus like a natural appendage. Especially as we had received at about the same time the Bella by Spareparts, a very pretty harness brief with loads of lace, the review of which we will publish soon.
Unfortunately, none of our harnesses turned out to be fitted with a ring large enough. So I have not (yet) been able to test it in this way. But I am determined to sort that out as soon as I get the chance.
In this photo, from left to right: the Tantus Max O2, the Fleshjack Jason Visconti, the Fun Factory Tiger, the Tantus Comet and the largest dildo in the kit Tantus Bend Over. It is worth noting that the Max O2 is the largest.
This problem is not unsolvable: it is enough to find out the dimensions of the harness ring before choosing it, or, for a harness such as the Tantus Bend Over, whose ring is interchangeable, to get a larger ring.
However, finding a replacement ring for a strap-on harness in a sex shop is not exactly straightforward.
But good news, these little objects have the good sense of also being used in plumbing. This is probably their original function, which must have been repurposed later for the greatest pleasure of strap-on lovers. Look for an O-Ring (still an O-Ring if your search takes you to the English-speaking internet) in a size that suits you in a hardware store, and if you find one, you’re set. We haven’t tested it, but the internet has approved the technique.
Using the Tantus Max O2 as a standard dildo
Not having a harness of the right size, I therefore settled for a more standard use of the Tantus Max O2, as a simple dildo. Which was already very pleasant.
Insertion of the sex toy
It’s large, so I didn’t skimp on lubricant (the ones I happened to have at hand, namely some Durex Play, water-based, and some Pjur Back Door, silicone-based but compatible with pure silicone sex toys) and I limited myself to vaginal penetration, my wee cunt being a bit put off by such a diameter.
Its head is its softest part. From my vagina’s point of view, which is a whole lot less able to tell surface textures apart than the tips of my fingers, the contact is ultimately quite similar to that of the glans of a (very large) penis.
At the same size, I generally find that a sex toy is harder to insert than a penis, because most sex toys are more rigid than a male sex organ. Even if it is in top form and has a cheerful, tenacious erection, a phallus always retains a certain suppleness. You can squeeze it between your fingers and make “Squish! Squish!” on it, even if it is not very exciting for its owner. A dildo is rarely that soft.
The Tantus Max O2, for its part, is about as “soft” as a real erect penis, and has the same shape.
Sensations
The sensations it provides are therefore very similar to those provided by a (very large) wiener during vaginal penetration. It is relatively easy to insert, provided of course you are sufficiently in the mood.
Of course, it does not move on its own: it only replaces the penis, not its/their wearer.
Another quality: it stands upright, fairly stably. This allows you to ride it and try “hands-free” positions. I often use a clitoral vibrator as well, so I appreciate this freedom of movement.
Dildos that stand upright: two realistic ones (Tantus Max O2 and Fleshjack Jason Visconti ), a colourful one (Tantus Comet) and two monochrome ones (Fun Factory Tiger and the large dildo from the kit Tantus Bend Over).
Conclusion on the Tantus Max O2 dildo
The good points:
- A pretty good texture. Soft and plush on the surface, denser inside. Of course, we’re not going to mistake it for a real penis, but to the touch it comes close.
- It is generally of good quality: made from a safe, solid material, it is a sex toy that can, a priori, be kept for a long time.
The ‘neutral’ points:
- It is very large (and so it won’t suit everyone or every harness)
- Even if the material is excellent, it isn’t moulded and the details are absent. In short, that makes it less realistic, strictly speaking. Again, this isn’t necessarily a drawback, but simply a criterion to take into account when choosing. On the contrary, for example, some people will find overly realistic sex toys a bit creepy.
The negatives:
- No negatives. (A sleeve would have been nice, perhaps?)
In short
The Tantus Max O2 is a sex toy particularly realistic in terms of its texture.
- It manages to imitate, quite convincingly, the sensations provided by a penis of considerable size. The whole thing is easy to handle.
- It stands up. Note that a penis fitted with a human does too.
- And it is safe for the body, as it is made of 100% silicone.
I really like it, and find it very pleasant for vaginal penetration.
However, I regret that I couldn’t find a harness suitable for its diameter. Indeed, its near-natural texture should also bring a touch of realism to role-play BDSM, such as a blowjob using a dick harness. I’ll try to address that, and complete this article with details about my discoveries.
A final remark, to compare the degree of realism with that of a dildo Fleshjack, for anyone looking for the most realistic option: if you average them out, they’re ultimately equivalent.
The Tantus is much more realistic in terms of the material, pressure resistance, etc., while the Fleshjack is much less convincing in that respect, but also much more convincing when it comes to detail and surface, since the moulding is so precise and well executed.
In summary, both are equally realistic, but in different ways. The ultimate realistic sex toy would undoubtedly be the fusion of these two.
Review score
Pros
- Really nice texture
- Stands upright

Cons
- Too big for many harnesses
